Story Avenue & Main Street Storage Basin

Home Public Input Story Avenue & Main Street Storage Basin

Plans for the proposed Story & Main Combined Sewer Overflow Basin have changed. Advancements in technology now allow the construction of a deep-rock tunnel, which will replace three basins—Lexington and Payne; Story and Main; and, Thirteenth and Rowan streets. The Ohio River Tunnel Project offers the same storage capacity of the three proposed basins for about the same cost. Click here for more information about the Ohio River Tunnel Project.

October 11, 2016 Design Update Meeting

MSD held a Design Update Meeting on October 11, 2016 at the American Printing House for the Blind, 1839 Frankfort Avenue, concerning the changes to the plans for the Story & Main CSO (Combined Sewer Overflow) Basin proposed for construction in the area of Story Avenue and Main Street, in the Butchertown neighborhood.

Advancements in technology now allow the construction of a deep-rock tunnel, which will replace this basin. The Ohio River Tunnel Project offers the same storage capacity of the three proposed basins for about the same cost. Click here for more information about the Ohio River Tunnel Project.

February 10, 2016 Public Input Meeting

MSD held a Conceptual Design Meeting concerning the Story & Main CSO (Combined Sewer Overflow) Basin—a covered-underground basin to be constructed in the area of Story Avenue and Main Street, in the Butchertown neighborhood.

This meeting provided you with information about the conceptual design phase of the basin, and offered you an opportunity for input and comments.

This basin project will greatly lessen the occurrence of combined sewer overflows—untreated sewage—entering the Ohio River.

June 16th, 2015 IOAP Public Input Meeting

MSD conducted a sewer overflow abatement project review and input meeting on Tuesday June 16th, 2015, at American Printing House for the Blind. MSD staff were there to speak about the need for—and benefits of—a storage basin near Story Avenue and Main Street in Butchertown. This basin will provide protection from untreated sewer overflows to Beargrass Creek during rain events.

Representatives from MSD and Louisville Metro District 4 Councilman David Tandy were also in attendance at this meeting.

The FULL video of the June 16 meeting can be seen below.
