Shawnee Park Basin (SW PKWY Storage Basin)
Home Public Input Shawnee Park Basin (SW PKWY Storage Basin)
Basins are a key part of achieving safe, clean waterways
Rainwater can enter the sewer system during rain events and cause a mixture of sewage and rainwater to flow untreated into our waterways. Proposed and existing storage basins—throughout our city—are designed to retain the mixture of rainwater and sewage until the rain subsides, and then gradually release it back into the sewer system for treatment.
When completed, the project will be largely invisible to the public and will enhance not only the water quality of the Ohio River, but also the quality of one of Louisville’s premiere parks.
Dates of Stakeholder Meetings
The Stakeholder Advisory Committee was created as a result of the Memorandum of Agreement executed between the Louisville and Jefferson County Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) and Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Government for construction of the Southwestern Parkway CSO Basin within Shawnee Park. The Stakeholder Advisory Committee consists of representatives from MSD, MSD’s Progressive Design-Build team, Louisville Metro District 5 Council Member (2), Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation (2), Olmsted Parks Conservatory (2) and the Shawnee neighborhood (2). The Stakeholder Advisory Committee meets quarterly throughout the project to discuss any concerns that arise during construction and coordinate the most effective ways to properly engage the community throughout construction.
